Refract are looking for an excellent, experienced Business Development Manager to join our team here in Newcastle. Based at ‘The Core’ in the Centre of Newcastle, we’re building a world class SaaS business, solving a key challenge for sales leaders – improving sales conversations outcomes and revenue through coaching, with limited time.

Based at ‘The Core’ in the centre of Newcastle, we’re building a world class SaaS business, solving the challenges for sales leaders and coaches – giving insights into their team’s sales conversations, taking the heavy lifting out of sales coaching, whilst turning average performers into sales rockstars, by sharing best practice.
Only four years into our journey, our technology is making waves globally – our clients include VMWare, Daisy Group, Neopost and Three amongst a host of technology, recruitment, call centre and sales coaching organisations.
It’s a great start but these are early days. We’ve done this before, building one of the region’s biggest SaaS businesses and learning lessons along the way (lots, we have the scars to prove it!). Our product is awesome and getting better and better. Our market opportunity is massive (any sales team wanting to improve the quality of their sales conversations) and nearly 50% of our customers are US based.
We are not just blowing our own trumpet – 2 highly respected tech VC’s have backed us along with a host of successful business angels. But, as we may have already mentioned, we are at the very start.

About The Role
Beyond the company bit above, there are three reasons why this is such a great role here at Refract.
Firstly – our audience are sales leaders. We spend our days reading their tweets, blogs and whitepapers, researching their best practices and then introducing the benefits of Refract to them. They are unforgiving of shitty, lazy outreach and crappy demos but they love our highly researched, personalised approaches and high impact sales conversations. They understand we are sales professionals – almost every day our prospects praise our approach and share it with their own teams as an example.
Secondly Refract is all about sales coaching, and obviously we drink our own champagne, using the platform prolifically to help onboard, coach and develop our skills.
Finally, you will have the benefit of working with a sales team that really get SaaS sales, and who are all striving for shared success.
As part of our BDM team, you’ll be provided with qualified opportunities from our SDR (lead gen) team but will be passionate about making things happen from your own calls, emails, and social prospecting. We want to fill your diary but don’t believe you should ever forget the value of creating your own opportunities. You will also get the chance to attend conferences ,networking events, and exhibitions -so your time won’t always be restricted to the office.
You’ll be conducting discovery calls to understand business needs and fit and delivering personalised demos to sales leaders – and you know they’ll be judging! Much of what we do is carried out over the phone and via Zoom meetings, but sometimes we need to get out in the field and get in front of the right prospects.
We are more interested in your skills, attributes and drive than your experience. Sure, tell us all about any roles or experiences that align to this one, but we want to find out about you more than your last role. We will want to hear about experiences – in or out of work, that demonstrate the skills and attributes that are important to success in this role. That being said, a track record of working in SaaS is very desirable.
We feel we can be picky and have a really high bar – and whilst we know great people are seriously hard to find, if we choose you it’s because we believe in your ability to play a great role in our future – not just ‘do a decent job’.
Hopefully you feel you have the ingredients and drive to be hugely successful, your goals are probably bigger than your peers, and with the right coaching, support and development can achieve whatever you set your mind to.
Whilst we appreciate no one is great at everything, commitment, resilience, curiosity and coachability are all likely strengths of yours. You also have your reasons for wanting a career in sales – we don’t care why so much, but you’ll be passionate about sales as a career of choice for you.
